1996-2000 Yiddish Folk Tales series

selection

Whispers (The Yiddish Folk Tales), is based in the magic and legends of Yiddish speaking Eastern Europe, my heritage. Searching for continuity between past and present, I focused on stories that allowed me to portray children reaching a stage of independence and completeness. Their transitional nature is echoed in the recurring image of the “Trickster”, appearing as a “Jester” or “Rabbit”, an allegorical figure hovering on the border of the unconscious, inhabiting the space in which light and shadow play tricks.
